CRKN is a national network of 88 Canadian universities, libraries, and research institutions dedicated to making trustworthy knowledge accessible to all. Together, we are building a future where knowledge is open, shared, and preserved for generations to come.
Empowering Research, Learning, and Discovery
We license scholarly content, promote open access, and preserve Canada’s documentary heritage, so that knowledge can be freely accessed and shared by librarians, researchers, educators, students, and the public.
Programs
Through our three core programs—Licensing and Open Access, Canadiana, and Persistent Identifiers—we support trusted, long-term access to research and historical content across Canada.
Thanks to the financial support of CRKN members, our Canadiana and Héritage Collections provide researchers and the public with access to over 69 million digitized pages of Canadian historical content, including books, newspapers, maps, government records, and personal papers.

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is pleased to announce that Denise LaFitte, Special Advisor, Strategic Leadership at the University of Alberta, is the 2026 recipient of the Ron MacDonald Outstanding Service Award. Denise will be honoured at the Ron MacDonald Award Ceremony during CRKN’s Member Summit in Québec City in recognition of her exceptional leadership, collaborative spirit, and decades of service advancing scholarly communications, licensing, and open access in Canada.
