Licensing Officer

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is seeking a Licensing Officer to join our Content Team. This role advances CRKN’s mission by leading licensing negotiations, supporting open access initiatives, and collaborating with member institutions and internal stakeholders across Canada, while contributing to the strategic direction of the content program and ensuring member access to essential resources.

We are looking for a collaborative and analytical professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys building relationships across multiple organizations. Responsibilities also include engaging with the Content Strategy Committee, participating in national and international discussions on scholarly communications, and representing CRKN at conferences and professional events.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Ottawa or remotely anywhere in Canada. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those who have followed non-traditional pathways into licensing, library, or scholarly communications roles. We encourage applicants who are passionate about equitable access to academic resources and contributing to Canada’s research library community to apply.

Guide to Candidates

Please submit your application before end of day February 6, 2026 by email to HR@crkn.ca with the subject line: Licensing Officer Application – [Your Name]

Include in your email:

  1. Resume (required)
  2. Cover Letter (required)
  3. Responses to Pre-screening Questions (required – see below)

Pre-Screening Questions (please include your answers in your email application):

  • Briefly describe your experience leading licensing negotiations and/or open access initiatives relevant to academic or research libraries.
  • Share an example of working with multiple stakeholders to achieve a strategic objective.
  • Describe a complex licensing negotiation you were directly responsible for. What challenges did you face, and what was the outcome?

Applications will be reviewed in the order received, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Please ensure your application materials are complete and clear for consideration.

CRKN respectfully acknowledges that its offices are located on the traditional, unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe People. We also recognize that our member institutions are situated across the land now known as Canada, and we extend our respect and gratitude to all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.

Through our work—particularly with the Canadiana and Héritage collections—we are committed to acknowledging colonial injustices, supporting First Nation, Inuit, and Métis data sovereignty, and working in partnership with communities. We strive to engage in respectful practices that honour community protocols and uphold the right of Indigenous Peoples to determine how materials related to their heritage are governed.
