The Fonds de recherche du Québec are proud to announce that they are joining ORCID-CA, the Canadian consortium established to support the integration of ORCID identifiers in research-related information systems.
ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) produces unique, persistent identifiers that researchers can use with multiple organizations to compile the outputs of their research activities.
ORCID is a global, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to enable transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers—be they in training or in a research position—and their contributions and affiliations by providing a unique, persistent identifier for individuals to use as they engage in research and teaching activities.
ORCID will eventually be integrated into the information systems held and managed by the Fonds de recherche du Québec, including FRQnet and the FRQS register of research centres and institutes.
FRQ funding applicants and award holders will then be able to authorize the automatic addition of structured data related to their research activities (funding obtained, scientific productions, etc.) directly from their ORCID profile to the FRQ information systems.
This is part of an overall effort to reduce the administrative burden for the research community in relation to data collection in all our processes. In addition, the integration of persistent unique identifiers such as ORCID is a facilitator in the ongoing transition towards open science.
