The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) and the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) are pleased to announce the renewal of their partnership. CRKN members will continue to have the opportunity to financially contribute towards the PKP Membership Program. CRKN has been a dedicated partner to PKP, actively supporting the organization through its participation in the Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services (SCOSS) since 2020. CRKN has also supported PKP in their collaboration with Érudit on Coalition Publica since 2014.
CRKN is among several consortia that have strengthened PKP through this program. In light of the growing importance of Diamond OA publishing, the collaboration between scholarly and research organizations and open infrastructures has never been more crucial in achieving sustainable access to global research. “We are proud to continue partnering with such an innovative organization dedicated to advancing Canadian research and scholarship,” said John Willinsky, PKP’s founder and Co-Scientific Director, “given our shared goals of increasing access to knowledge.”

The use of PKP free and open source software (FOSS) by a dozen CRKN member organizations, along with the recent finding that 60% of sampled OA Diamond journals globally rely on PKP’s Open Journal Systems (OJS), highlights the demonstrable benefits that all CRKN members gain from PKP's instrumental role in advancing the accessibility, quality, reach, and diversity of information. We are immensely pleased to not only sustain but also enhance our relationship with CRKN and its respected member institutions.
