Call for Nominations: Knowledge Base Entitlements Sub-Committee
Please see the Terms of Reference and Nomination Form for further details.
The Content Strategy Committee (CSC) invites nominations from the CRKN membership to fill up to two (2) positions on the Knowledge Base Entitlements Sub-Committee (KBESC) from January 1, 2026.
The purpose of the Knowledge Base Entitlements Sub-Committee is to customize vendor-supplied title lists to accurately reflect CRKN entitlements. The KBESC is also responsible for the maintenance of the CRKN Open Access Journals List and the title lists for the Canadiana collections. These lists are supplied to providers (EBSCO, Ex Libris, and OCLC) to create CRKN-specific targets in their knowledge bases. Additionally, the KBESC is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and development of Perpetual Access Rights Reports. The full Terms of Reference are available on the CRKN website.
Meetings typically includes discussions on:
- Knowledge base and link resolver functionality
- Metadata and KBART scope (i.e., inclusion and transfer of titles)
- OCLC/OCN in the scope of the PA Rights Tracking Project
- Institution entitlements
- Development of PA Rights Tracking Project reports for eBooks
- Member queries (e.g., KBARTs, perpetual access rights, knowledge bases, entitlements, access issues)
According to the Terms of Reference, the KBESC is composed of a maximum number of 8 members, specifically:
Library staff (inclusive of technicians and assistants) drawn from the membership with diverse expertise; consideration should be given to the variety of link resolvers and shared platforms used by CRKN members (e.g. EBSCO, Alma, SFX, 360 KB, OCLC; Novanet, Projet de plateforme partagée de services des bibliothèques (PPS)).
Candidates are particularly being sought from institutions using EBSCO, OCLC, and WMS, and from institutions involved in Novanet. For confirmation, KBESC is language and institution size inclusive such that all voices and regional perspectives are welcome.
KBESC members attend regular monthly meetings (1-2 hours) and commit time to update and review assigned files in between meetings (1-3 hours per month; this can be increased at certain periods such as during the annual licensed content update at the end of the calendar year or in the context of a particular project).
