Library-Powered Research Infrastructure: Exploring Future Funding Models for Canadiana
**This event is for CRKN members only**
In 2018, CRKN members voted to merge with Canadiana, becoming the stewards of a massive collection of Canadian historical documents and the owners of the access and preservation infrastructure that mobilizes the collections. As a condition of the merger and to align with CRKN’s mission, CRKN members wanted to ensure that the Canadiana content should be made freely available rather than being behind a paywall. At that time, CRKN members agreed to financially support the program with a request that CRKN explore additional sources for funding. The Heritage Content Access and Preservation fee model has been largely based on pre-merger contributions to Canadiana, rather than equitable fees using CRKN’s banding system. CRKN members will continue to be the most essential source of stable funding for this infrastructure that supports cutting-edge research, and members have requested that we explore funding models in alignment with our banding system.
As we approach the possibility of a significant investment in innovation for the Canadiana infrastructure from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, this webinar will showcase the value of the Canadiana Collections and Infrastructure, engage with members on how to best financially support this vital asset in a way that is sustainable for Canadiana and for CRKN members, and lay the groundwork for further discussion at the 2025 CRKN Member Summit in Halifax. Simultaneous translation will be provided, so please participate in the official language of your choice.
