We are delighted to share that Érudit launched the ORCID Identifier Enhancement Service in October 2023. This project was created with the support of the ORCID-CA consortium and staff at CRKN. The new Enhancement Service will support the adoption and integration of ORCID identifiers in Quebec and the wider Canadian research community which will further the implementation of all persistent identifiers in research infrastructure systems in Canada.

We are pleased to announce the dates for the 2024 CRKN Virtual Conference. Join us online from Wednesday, May 22 to Friday, May 24, 2024 for an engaging program of thematic sessions from community members covering the full scope of CRKN’s programs. We are still in the process of finalizing the exact session times, but expect that the sessions will be largely in the afternoon eastern time to accommodate participants from across Canada.
We will be launching the call for proposals in the upcoming weeks, but in the meantime please book this exciting event into your calendars.

The CRKN Member Summit and AGM is an opportunity to bring together members and other CRKN partners to engage on current and future projects. This year’s event was held in Vancouver, BC from October 4-6 and had 100 attendees. The three-day program consisted of updates on CRKN’s activities in the past year, discussion panels, receptions, and concluded with the annual meeting of the members.

CRKN is pleased to announce that the 2023 recipient of the Ron MacDonald Distinguished Service Award is Dana McFarland, Librarian and Coordinator, eResources and Scholarly Communication at Vancouver Island University (VIU). Ms. McFarland’s contributions to the Canadian academic library community will be celebrated at the Ron MacDonald Award Ceremony on October 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. PDT during CRKN’s Member Summit in Vancouver.

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) and Library and Archives Canada (LAC) have partnered on a pilot project to improve access to LAC’s materials in the Héritage collection through Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR). The pilot project will process a subset of RG 10 collection, “Records relating to Indian Affairs,” with Transkribus ICR software developed by READ-COOP.
