Healing and Learning through Storytelling: Truth and Indigenous Podcasting

Tuesday October 04, 2022
From 12:45pm to 1:45pm
In this session, Ry Moran, Cassidy Villebrun-Buracas, and Karina Greenwood will discuss the flourishing field of Indigenous podcasting and the power of healing through truth-telling and sharing stories.

In this session, Ry Moran, Cassidy Villebrun-Buracas, and Karina Greenwood will discuss the flourishing field of Indigenous podcasting and the power of healing through truth-telling and sharing stories.

Over the past year Ry, Cassidy, and Karina have been working on a podcast project seeking to understand why the truths of Indigenous peoples are so often suppressed or misunderstood in this country. The first season of their podcast launches in September 2022, as a podcast series of the University of Victoria Libraries. For this season they talked with over thirty Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Survivors, academics, artists, and activists, exploring the intersections of power, memory, human rights, and truth.

This discussion between the creators will look at truth-telling and reconciliation in podcasting, how the medium allows for greater accessibility and mobilization of knowledge, and what they learned working on their podcast.
