Each year, the Content Strategy Committee develops negotiation objectives for the upcoming renewals. Member engagement plays a critical part in the development of these objectives, and they are reviewed and approved by the Board ahead of the negotiations process.

- The APC Discounts page lists active CRKN-negotiated APC discounts for various publishers. Researchers affiliated to participating institutions are eligible for these discounts.

Negotiation Outcome Highlights
Advancing Open Access
In 2020, CRKN negotiated its first transformative “read and publish” agreement with SAGE, which came into effect on January 1, 2021. Through this agreement, authors affiliated with the 69 participating CRKN institutions may publish their articles as open access with no Article Processing Charge (APC) in over 900 SAGE Choice journals. Sustainable Scholarly Communications
In 2020, CRKN set bold negotiation objectives for its renewal with Elsevier for ScienceDirect, aiming to significantly reduce costs, increase open access, and ensure transparency of the agreement, in which 70 members participate.
