Expanding Canadiana with Member Digitization Projects
As part of CRKN’s commitment to growing and diversifying the Canadiana Collection, we are excited to announce that we are launching a call for Member Digitization Projects this fall.
CRKN collaborates with members, libraries, archives, and others in the heritage community to digitize and make content openly accessible on Canadiana. The Member Digitization Projects initiative guides this work with our member community, allowing us to effectively plan our digitization services for the following year while prioritizing member content.
Participation is an opportunity for physical materials from member libraries to be digitized and added to Canadiana, or for already-digitized materials to be transferred to CRKN and added to Canadiana. Participation is also open to community organizations partnered with members. As a result, researchers will be able to discover and access these member materials at no charge – thanks to the collective ownership of the CRKN membership.
The call for applications will be open between Wednesday, August 26 and Friday, November 27, and the Canadiana Content Sub-Committee (CCSC) will oversee the selection process. Projects that are accepted will be completed in CRKN’s 2027-2028 year.
We will host a webinar to provide more details and answer questions to help members make informed decisions about potential project applications. As part of the webinar, we will go over the documentation that will be posted on the CRKN website, including the guide for applicants and the fee rates. CRKN’s recent digitization and hosting services cost analysis indicated that the initiative needs to be run on a cost recovery basis to ensure financial sustainability.
Please register for one of the following dates:
Wednesday, August 26 from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm EDT
Friday, August 28 from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm EDT
For more information, please visit the webinar webpage. If you are not able to attend, a recording of the webinar will be posted on the Member Digitization Projects page.
Information about Member Digitization Projects, including examples of past projects, is on the CRKN website. We will also post important updates there throughout the call for applications process.
