Thematic Web Archives as an Emerging Collections Strategy

Thursday October 06, 2022
From 1:00pm to 1:30pm
Presenters will discuss thematic web archives in relation to emerging collections strategy in two different organizations. Web archiving activity is generally preservation-driven, and thematic web archiving in specific may be as well; however thematic approaches also effectively seek to augment traditional library collections with web-based content that is aligned with collections scope or mandates.
Open Access / Open Scholarship

Presenters will discuss thematic web archives in relation to emerging collections strategy in two different organizations.

Web archiving activity is generally preservation-driven, and thematic web archiving in specific may be as well; however thematic approaches also effectively seek to augment traditional library collections with web-based content that is aligned with collections scope or mandates.

In this session librarians from two organizations will reflect on how we are approaching this alternative collections work, which is also Open Access work, so that it might be better understood, integrated, and resourced sustainably and appropriately in relation to other library operations. We will also discuss our attempts at working collaboratively across institutions on thematic web archiving projects, and the benefits and challenges of working on web archives within and on behalf of our communities.
