Susan Paterson is the Government Publications Librarian at the University of British Columbia. Susan is an advocate for long term access and preservation of government documents. She co-published “Web harvesting and reporting fugitive government materials “ along with Nich Worby and Darlene Fichter in Government Information in Canada, has been active in ALA’s Government Documents Roundtable and is currently the Vice Chair of the Society of American Archivists’ Web Archiving Steering Committee. Susan is also the interim Chair of the Canadian Government Information Digital Preservation Network.

Presenters will discuss thematic web archives in relation to emerging collections strategy in two different organizations. Web archiving activity is generally preservation-driven, and thematic web archiving in specific may be as well; however thematic approaches also effectively seek to augment traditional library collections with web-based content that is aligned with collections scope or mandates.
