CRKN is pleased to offer this quarterly financial update to members and to provide information on the billing and other financial effects of the Canadiana combination, 2018-2019 membership fees, the foreign exchange service, invoicing results to date, and information on various administrative topics.

CRKN has begun the process of its next strategic plan (2019-2024). The last full strategic planning process occurred in 2012/2013 leading up to the 2013-2016 Strategic Plan, that was then extended for a further two years. As part of the 2013-2016 Strategic Plan, extensive stakeholder and member engagement occurred that directed CRKN’s activities. Since that time, CRKN has continued to develop and expand its licensing capacity, tools, services, and collaborations, while the context in which CRKN and its Members operate has become increasingly complex.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, CRKN is pleased to introduce the Preservation and Access Committee (PAC) members. The PAC reports to the CRKN Board of Directors with the goal of reviewing and making recommendations regarding the development and management of Canadiana services, including the Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR). After an overwhelming response to a call for nominations to this committee, the Board of Directors has appointed the following members of the committee:

CRKN is pleased to announce the successful recruitment of Rebecca Ross who will be joining the team, as of Monday, May 14, 2018, as Director, Marketing and Stakeholder Engagement. Rebecca brings ten years of strategic marketing and communications experience in the not-for-profit sector with a focus on academic publishing. Most recently, Rebecca was the Manager of Marketing and Communications at Canadian Science Publishing (CSP) where she was part of the launch and ongoing development of FACETS, a multidisciplinary open access science journal.

CRKN/Canadiana is pleased to share the announcement of the National Heritage Digitization Strategy’s (NHDS) Digitizing Canadian Collections funding call. This one-time funding opportunity will provide funds to organizations to digitize, make accessible and preserve documentary heritage material of national significance at a maximum of $100,000 per project.

CRKN is calling for nominations from our membership. The Ron MacDonald Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual within a member institution who has demonstrated vision, dedication and outstanding service in building bridges and collaboration to advance knowledge infrastructure in Canada. As an organization that relies so heavily on our volunteer base, this is an opportunity for CRKN to provide some much earned recognition. Nominations are open until May 18, 2018.
