Olivia Done (she/her) is a dual MLIS/MAS student at the University of British Columbia iSchool. Her focus is on increasing access to records through updated descriptions and terminology. A background in linguistics has assisted in linking colonial misspellings and misinterpretations of Indigenous names to the community’s preferred name. She was a Collections Assistant at the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre for a year and greatly valued learning from everyone at the centre and the ways in which they work to disrupt the colonial systems within the information profession.

The Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre works to support meaningful access to Residential School records for survivors and their families in British Columbia and beyond. Our presentation will describe a project at the Centre to update the names of Indigenous communities on our residential school records for British Columbia.
