Code of Conduct Committee
The CRKN Conference has a designated Code of Conduct Committee to ensure a safe and inclusive environment. Committee members are trained in incident reporting and will be identified in advance and at the event.

Harassment and Unacceptable Behaviour
CRKN does not tolerate harassment in any form. Harassment is any behaviour that threatens another person or creates an unsafe environment. Examples include:
- Offensive verbal comments or non-verbal expressions related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religious beliefs
- Sexual or discriminatory images in public spaces (including online)
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording
- Sustained disruption of talks or other events
- Inappropriate physical contact or unwelcome sexual attention
Code of Conduct Incident Reporting Process
CRKN values the safety of attendees and encourages reporting of any Code of Conduct violations.
How to report:
- Submit via online form (requires name/contact info)
- Contact a Committee member directly by email (see list above)
Reporting details:
- Any attendee (the Reporter) may report an incident to a CRKN staff member
- Staff will contact a Committee member if needed to take the report
- If using the online form, the Reporter may be contacted for additional details
- Committee member records the report using a template
- Reporter is not required to resolve the incident directly with the Reported Person
- Committee members cannot review reports involving themselves
Contacting the Reported Person
A Committee member will contact the Reported Person promptly:
- Relay details of the incident without identifying the Reporter
- Provide a copy of the Code of Conduct and describe the behaviour that prompted the report
- Record the Reported Person’s response
Next Steps & Sanctions
After contacting the Reported Person, the Committee will meet to:
- Determine if the behaviour violated the Code of Conduct
- Decide on sanctions based on severity
Possible sanctions include:
- Warning with notice of further sanctions if behaviour continues
- Requirement to seek no further contact with the Reporter
- Prohibition on discussion of certain topics
- Removal from formal roles (volunteer, speaker, etc.)
- Removal from specific sessions
- Removal from the event
Up to two Committee representatives will communicate the decision and sanctions to the Reported Person. The Committee does not mediate apologies or disagreements. The Reporter will also be informed of the outcome.
