Early Findings from the CCDH Canadian GLAM Digitization Capacity Survey
Canadian Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums share a commitment to expanding digital access to cultural heritage through digitization, yet operate within highly uneven conditions of staffing, infrastructure, policy, and funding. In 2026, the Coalition for Canadian Digital Heritage launched the first national, cross-sectoral Digitization Capacity Survey to establish an evidence-based baseline of digitization activity across Canada.
This presentation shares initial findings from the survey, focusing on patterns that matter most for collective action. Drawing on responses across institution types, regions, and sizes, the analysis highlights where capacity is concentrated, where it is constrained, and where shared approaches could meaningfully shift outcomes.
This data was gathered as a tool for collaboration and collective action. It will explore how aggregated capacity data can support coordinated investment, inform national funding conversations, and help organizations align local priorities with sector-wide momentum. The session concludes with next steps for analysis and dissemination, and outlines concrete opportunities for CRKN members to engage with CCDH in shaping future capacity-building and digital heritage initiatives.
