CRKN Virtual Conference: Creative Collaborations, Collective Momentum
Virtual
May 12 - 14, 2026
During the last several years, UBC librarians have worked to ensure that research data practices honour the rights and priorities of Indigenous communities. This session explores how the OCAP principles: Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession, are applied in real-world contexts at the University of British Columbia data repositories. Through scenarios from UBC’s data collections, we will examine strategies for metadata design, access protocols, and governance models that uphold OCAP principles over research data. We will also cover lessons we learned and practical insights into implementing culturally appropriate data management practices within an academic research environment.
