CRKN Participating in the Canadian Scholarly Publishing Working Group
CRKN is pleased to participate in the Canadian Scholarly Publishing Working Group building on work and partnerships developed over the past few years. The Working Group includes stakeholders from across the full spectrum of the Canadian scholarly communications ecosystem and on November 7, 2016, the Working Group held its first full-day meeting in Ottawa.
Leslie Weir Named Recipient of the 2016 Ron MacDonald Distinguished Service Award
Ottawa – September 8, 2016 – The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is pleased to announce Leslie Weir as the recipient of the 2016 Ron MacDonald Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented on October 19, 2016 in Halifax, Nova Scotia as part of CRKN’s annual general meeting.

CRKN hosts a meeting for all members once a year providing an opportunity for more in-depth discussion as a community regarding key issues and projects and to conduct the formal annual business meeting of the members.

Project COUNTER Membership
CRKN has been a member of Project COUNTER, “a non-profit organization supported by a global community of library, publisher and vendor members, who contribute to the development of the Code of Practice through working groups and outreach” since 2015.
"COUNTER provides the Code of Practice that enables publishers and vendors to report usage of their electronic resources in a consistent way. This enables libraries to compare data received from different publishers and vendors."
NISO Membership
CRKN has been a member of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) since 2015. NISO is a non-profit association accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which identifies, develops, maintains, and publishes technical standards to manage information in our changing and ever-more digital environment.

Foreign Exchange Service
The Foreign Exchange (FX) Service provides CRKN members with additional certainty for the administration of their collections budgets. Through the FX Service, CRKN offers two options, bidding and USD billing, on selected license products to help members minimize the impact of foreign exchange fluctuation.
Members participating in the FX Service are eligible to bid their preferred rates, choose spot rates, or select direct USD billing. CRKN will levy an additional administration fee for participation in the FX Service.

The Institutional Mobilization Toolkit offers a collection of materials for CRKN members to utilize when communicating with their internal stakeholders on the issues of negotiation priorities. The IM Toolkit helps librarians communicate with researchers, faculty members, and administrators about how their publishing choices, promotions and tenure decisions impact the larger academic enterprise.
