CRKN Welcomes Rachel Neilson as Digital Services Intern

CRKN is pleased to welcome Rachel Neilson as Digital Services Intern. This position is made possible through the Young Canada Works program administered by the Canadian Council of Archives. Rachel will work alongside CRKN’s licensing team on member-focused digital tasks, as well as on various projects related to Canadiana services. Prior to joining CRKN, Rachel worked for a year as the Collections Assistant at the Audio-Visual Resource Centre (AVRC) at Carleton University working on a digital collections project.

Jointly co-hosted by the National Heritage Digitization Strategy (NHDS) and Canadiana, the platform and digitization services of the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN), the goal of this workshop is to highlight the digitization and preservation work of the NHDS and Canadiana, and gather end-users perspectives on how the NHDS and Canadiana should evolve to meet user needs.

JVA 2018 Webinar

The 2018 Journal Value Analytics (JVA) tool has been sent to CRKN members. Compiled annually by CRKN, the JVA tool combines pricing, subject, and usage data to evaluate CRKN-licensed journal packages. The JVA tool is meant as a starting point to provide a high-level perspective on collections at the title level. The tool includes usage and fee data from 2017 where available. Join us for a webinar on August 16 to learn how to get the most for the 2018 JVA.

The ORCID-CA Consortium has now reached 35 members! Launched in May 2017, ORCID-CA provides Canadian institutions and organizations with membership to ORCID at a reduced cost as well as access to community support services. As we embark on year two of ORCID-CA, join us for an ORCID-CA update and member check-in with Gloria Booth-Morrison, ORCID-CA Member Support Specialist. 

CRKN is Seeking a Strategic Planning Consultant

CRKN has begun the process of its next strategic plan (2019-2024). The last full strategic planning process occurred in 2012/2013 leading up to the 2013-2016 Strategic Plan, that was then extended for a further two years. As part of the 2013-2016 Strategic Plan, extensive stakeholder and member engagement occurred that directed CRKN’s activities. Since that time, CRKN has continued to develop and expand its licensing capacity, tools, services, and collaborations, while the context in which CRKN and its Members operate has become increasingly complex.

Introducing the Preservation and Access Committee

On behalf of the Board of Directors, CRKN is pleased to introduce the Preservation and Access Committee (PAC) members. The PAC reports to the CRKN Board of Directors with the goal of reviewing and making recommendations regarding the development and management of Canadiana services, including the Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR). Digitizing Canadian Collections Funding Call Now Available

CRKN/Canadiana is pleased to share the announcement of the National Heritage Digitization Strategy’s (NHDS) Digitizing Canadian Collections funding call. This one-time funding opportunity will provide funds to organizations to digitize, make accessible and preserve documentary heritage material of national significance at a maximum of $100,000 per project.

Preservation and Access Committee

Reporting to the CRKN Board of Directors, the Preservation and Access Committee (PAC) assists the Board in its activities by reviewing and making recommendations regarding the development and management of the Canadiana and Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR) platform and the associated services and capabilities.

The Preservation and Access Committee is established by the Board of Directors as a Standing Committee of the Board, pursuant to section 12 of the Corporations’ By-laws.

CRKN and Canadiana.org Merge as Combined Organization

Ottawa, Ontario - The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) and Canadiana.org (Canadiana) are pleased to announce a merger of the two organizations, which will now be under the leadership of CRKN. The merged organization began combined operations on April 1, 2018.

Executive Director, Clare Appavoo, reappointed for five-year term
