The inaugural CRKN Access to Knowledge Conference was held from October 16 to 18, 2019 in Ottawa. A sold-out event, the conference welcomed 150 members, stakeholders, and special guests, as well as more than 70 remote attendees who participated via the conference live stream. The three-day conference included a full day dedicated to CRKN business, the Transforming Scholarly Communications: Developing Canada’s Open Access Strategy workshop, and a day of programming on Digital Heritage Content and Preservation.
November 5, 2019. Ottawa, ON - The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) and the Canadian Association of Research Libraries’ (CARL) Portage Network have been approved as a consortial member of DataCite. CRKN and CARL Portage will assume responsibility for, and management of, DataCite Canada as of January 1, 2020. CRKN and CARL Portage will be communicating with current DataCite Canada members throughout November 2019. A transition plan from the National Research Council Canada to CRKN and CARL Portage is in development.
CRKN is pleased to announce that it has adopted Archivematica as the new preservation platform for the Canadiana Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR). Archivematica will replace the preservation management components of the current platform, which were developed in-house over the past decade.

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Annette Trimbee as Chair of its Board of Directors for a three-year term, commencing October 17, 2019.
CRKN is pleased to announce that the 2019 Journal Value Analytics (JVA) tool has been launched for members. Compiled annually, the JVA tool combines pricing, subject, and usage data to evaluate CRKN-licensed journal packages and provides a broad perspective of member collections at the title level. This year’s JVA tool includes the two major CRKN journal licenses currently up for renewal: Springer and Taylor & Francis.

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is pleased to welcome Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) as its 78th institutional member. Through its institutional membership, BAnQ will support the development of the Canadiana platform and contribute to fostering a deeper engagement with the Québécois and Francophone library, archive, and research community in Canada.
