In 1999, the Canadian National Site Licensing Project (CNSLP) was created with the support of 64 Canadian universities and funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation and provincial governments. Its goal was to bolster the research and innovation capacity of Canada’s universities by licensing electronic versions of scholarly publications on a national scale. Over time this work would grow and the CNSLP became more formalized, ultimately being incorporated as a non-profit corporation, the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN).
The CFI Application Strategy Task Group (CFI-ASTG) will provide leadership and strategic oversight of CRKN’s application to the CFI Innovation Fund (CFI IF). The CFI IF application from CRKN will involve input of various expert task groups. The CFI-ASTG will ensure alignment between these groups with the goal of strengthening the CFI IF application.
As a follow up to the Shaping the Future: CRKN’s Evolving Open Access Strategy session at the CRKN Member Summit and AGM, CRKN and Érudit will present a joint webinar on the renewal of our Partnership for Open Access agreement on Monday, November 4 from 2 to 3 pm ET.
In 2020, the Canadian Persistent Identifier Advisory Committee (CPIDAC) replaced the ORCID-CA Advisory Committee. The CPIDAC acts in the interests of the Canadian scholarly and research communities by providing expertise and advice to both the ORCID-CA Governing Committee and the DataCite Canada Consortium Governing Committee on leveraging maximum benefits through national adoption and use of PIDs. Since 2021, the CPIDAC has steered the development of a national PID strategy for Canada.
The DataCite Canada Governing Committee (DCCGC), composed of and elected by DataCite Canada Consortium members, provides governance and operational oversight for DataCite Canada to function effectively and sustainably into the future, with program support jointly administered by CRKN and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada.
The ORCID-CA Governing Committee (OCGC), composed of and elected by ORCID-CA members, provides governance and operational oversight for ORCID-CA to function effectively and sustainably.
CRKN is pleased to announce that the 2024 recipient of the Ron MacDonald Outstanding Service Award is Camille Callison. Camille Callison (Tahltan) is the University Librarian of the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV). She has been a transformative force in the library and archives community, particularly in advancing the preservation and representation of Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) knowledges, languages, and cultures. Camille’s contributions to the Canadian library community will be celebrated at the Ron MacDonald Award Ceremony on Oct.
The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is pleased to announce that the Departmental Letterbooks, part of Library and Archives Canada’s (LAC) RG 10 fonds, have been fully transcribed through CRKN and LAC’s intelligent character recognition (ICR) pilot project.
